1. Purchase the new battery recommended and rated for your car (the parts dealer and your mechanic will have that information). Be aware that the old battery is usually exchanged for the new one for recycling purposes, so you can either take it with you or drop it off later.
Writer:
-For Gen 2, battery spec: 12VDC DIN55R 55AH. I comfortable with maintenence free type. No more forget to check battery water. My new bosch battery have hydrometer on the cover. Good to have this on your battery.
- I purchased the new battery from a car spare part shop. Normal work shop do not stock this battery type specific for Gen 2.

2. Open the hood of your car and locate the battery.

3. Make sure your car engine is turn off. Disconnect the cable terminals from the old battery's terminals (negative/black first and then positive/red).

4. Remove the frame or bracket holding the battery in place, and lift the battery out.

Writer:
-Gen 2 battery is keep in place by a bracket on the bottom of the battery.
-Loosen the bolt near the negative terminal.

5. Clean the cable terminals with a wire brush and baking soda and water if they're corroded or dirty.

6. Use a wire brush or a battery terminal cleaner (a very inexpensive tool) to scrape the inside of each cable terminal to expose new, clean metal to the new battery terminal. If the cable terminals are damaged, they need to be replaced.
Writer:
-I use sand paper to remove some of the stubburn stain.
-Ensure the terminal is making metal to metal contact free from oil and grease.

7. Lower the new battery into position, with the positive and negative poles in the same relative positions as before, and secure the frame.

8. Connect the cables to the new battery securely - positive to positive and then negative to negative. The cable ends should not be able to move at all; any looseness can prevent your car from starting.
Writer:
-Do not over tighten the cable. it can cause damage to your battery.

9.Test the battery by starting the engine.

  1. I come across your post by chance and this post of yours sets me thinking. Aren't you supposed to let the engine running to change the battery so that the ECU will not be "shorted"?

pakai adjustable spanner boleh. Try ketuk-ketuk sikit.
    kalau pakai ratchet, size 12.

No need to keep the engine running. Turn off your engine while doing this. Running engine means your alternator is running too. You do not want to get "SHOCK" by this.

  7. For providing support to your car, battery is playing a major role in order to keep some part in working condition such as engine light and other light in your car. Be aware about the changing process of car's battery. When you are going to change it first turn off your car's engine. Disconnect the cable terminals from the old or dead battery and replace it with a new one. When installing new one make sure the terminal is making metal to metal contact free from oil and grease. Connect the cables to the new battery securely.
